Project PRIDE
What is Project PRIDE? Project PRIDE (Providing Relief for Individuals Dependent on Energy) helps pay a portion of Snohomish County PUD electric bills for our neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet because of their limited financial resources.
Established in 1982 by your Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross in conjunction with Snohomish County PUD, Project PRIDE has been a valued resource for those who qualify for assistance. It has paid over $2 million to the PUD for recipients since the inception of the program. The program is administered by your American Red Cross and provides limited emergency assistance for families or individuals whose income is less than 125% of the federal poverty level. Recipients must have a notice of disconnection of service, and the family cannot have received a grant from the federal energy program.
How is it supported? Project PRIDE operates almost entirely from donations from other generous and caring ratepayers. Assistance is provided in the form of grant payments made directly to the customer’s PUD account to prevent disconnection of electric service.
What if I need help? If you need help with a partial payment on your PUD bill, you can inquire about Project PRIDE at 425-740-2333 or email Clare Waite at waitec@snohomishcounty.redcross.org. You can write to:
Project PRIDE
Snohomish County Chapter
2530 Lombard Avenue
Everett WA 98201
You will be first asked to apply for Snohomish County Energy Assistance funds. If denied help there, you can then contact Project PRIDE. You must have a disconnection notice, and the bill must be in the name of the person making the application.
All household income will be considered, and the income must be less than 125% of the federal poverty level. A copy of the PUD bill and personal identification will be needed. In addition, a signature on a confidential release form will be required.
Call the Snohomish County Chapter (Project PRIDE) first to determine if you meet the criteria for assistance. This will save a trip to the office if you do not qualify. If eligible, applications for Project PRIDE can be obtained from PUD offices in Arlington, Lynnwood, Stanwood, Monroe, and Snohomish. Project PRIDE personnel is in the office from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays only.
How can I help? There are several ways you can donate to Project PRIDE.
- You can make a donation by adding an additional amount to the payment on your PUD bill (donated funds are dispersed to the Snohomish Chapter on a monthly basis).
- Or you can write a separate check and enclose it with your PUD bill.
- You can also send a donation check (made payable to “American Red Cross”) directly to: Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 2530 Lombard Avenue, Everett WA 98201.
